WE DONATE 1% OF OUR TURNOVER TO CHARITY EVERY YEAR
When I went “all in” at Big Black Door, I wanted to do things the right way. In a way that I would be proud to reflect on when I’m sipping on a mojito sat on a beach somewhere hot in a few years’ time.
That includes not looking for a fast buck from our clients, treating co-workers like adults and giving something back through charitable donations.
So, I’m committing to donate 1% of turnover each year to a charity that means something to us. By using a sales-based donation, we are fully committing to guarantee a decent sized donation every year we’re in business, no matter how much we spend on growing.
For 2023, it’s the Trussell Trust.
I’ve been lucky to have a great career in food and drink businesses for a looooong time. And as we all know, there’s a large and growing chunk of the population who are struggling to put food on the table as the cost of living increases ahead of wages.
The BBC reported in July 2023 that 1 in 20 people said they’d run out of food and hadn’t been able to afford more, and the Trussell Trust’s report (June 2023) claims 1 in 7 people in the UK are facing hunger.
FFS. Those stats are shocking,
So, for those reasons, I’ve donated 1% of Big Black Door FY23 turnover to support the Trussell Trust
They support a nationwide network of food banks providing emergency food and support to people facing hardship, with the ambition to end the need for food banks in the UK. Something I think we can all get behind.
