WE DONATE 1% OF OUR TURNOVER
TO CHARITY EVERY YEAR
When I went “all in” at Big Black Door, I wanted to do things the right way. In a way that I would be proud to reflect on when I’m sipping on a mojito sat on a beach somewhere hot in a few years’ time.
That includes not looking for a fast buck from our clients, treating co-workers like adults and giving something back through charitable donations.
So, I’m committing to donate 1% of turnover each year to a charity that means something to us. By using a sales-based donation, we are fully committing to guarantee a decent sized donation every year we’re in business, no matter how much we spend on growing.
This year it’s St Gemma’s Hospice
For FY26, we've donated to St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds. It's not a food charity, but it's a Leeds institution, a world leader in palliative care, and it's there for people and their families at the hardest moment they'll ever face. That's reason enough.
LAST YEAR IT WAS NORTH EAST LEEDS JUNIOR FC
For FY25, our main donation went to North East Leeds Junior Football Club. They give hundreds of kids aged 6 to 18 football coaching every week, entirely on the back of volunteers. Ben plays for them, and it's the kind of grassroots work that keeps running whether or not anyone's watching.
Alongside that, we chose The Compassionate Friends, which supports bereaved parents and families after the death of a child.
